Sometimes (via littlenothingsfromtheheart)

This is just a simple poem that I found totally cute! REBLOG!!! yeepee!

Sometimes you never go looking. Sometimes you never even think about it. Sometimes it just hits you in the face and says "I'm here!". Sometimes you're still working on picking up the pieces when it happens. Sometimes you're just looking for a friend to understand. Sometimes it just happens. Sometimes you're scared. Sometimes you're not. Sometimes you're unprepared. Sometimes this guy just walks in and stomps on everything you believed about guys. … Read More

If Only I could zzzZzZzzzZZZ (dealing with INSOMNIA)

This whole week I have been going to bed but not going to sleep. It is extremely frustrating when you can’t get a few winks of sleep so I finally had it last night! There I was waking up from hours of ‘laying down’ and heading straight to my PC. “When in doubt, Google it” so I figured “When you can’t sleep ,Google it” and that is exactly what I did. So here is a little about Insomnia from a couple of sites that I will mention later so you too can research this sickness a bit. Well I thought I might as well share what I have learned because I am not alone, these are some practical ways to ensuring you get more sleep but if they don’t work for you it is important that you see a doctor, I for one will be going to an expert if my effort at getting 10 decent winks fails. Hope this helps you.

Insomnia is defined as the inability to get the amount of you sleep you need to feel rested and is not a sleep disorder but usually a symptom of another problem like stress, depression or illness.

The Types of Insomnia:

A. Transient Insomnia: when symptoms last less than a week. Most causes of this type of insomnia are jet lag, shift work, excessive noise and stressful life situations such as exams.

B. Short Term Insomnia: when symptoms last one to three weeks. Most common causes of this type are acute illness, medications that contain caffeine, injury, surgery and major loss.

C. Chronic Insomnia: when symptoms last longer than three weeks. Cases are linked to psychological causes such as anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder, but it can also occur with certain illness such as chronic pain syndromes, chronic fatigue syndrome and obstructive sleep apnoea.

The site suggests that certain changes of lifestyle should be implemented, this might help in seeing you get more rest. Here they are:

  • Keep a regular sleep pattern. Go to bed at the same night and wake up at the same time. (even if you didn’t manage to sleep at all).

  • No naps! This makes it harder for you to sleep at night but if you must make sure it is no longer than 30 minutes and before 3pm.

  • Steer clear of over-stimulation before bedtime. This includes strenuous exercises, watching TV, working on the PC and Video games. It is advised that you avoid electronic stimulation at least an hour before you plan to go to bed.

  • Keep your bedroom well ventilated, dark and quiet: It is a well known fact that noise, temperature and light can interfere with sleep. Ensure that your room is as dark as possible and well ventilated (even in winter). If there is a lot of outside noise, invest in a pair of earplugs.

  • Avoid too much caffeine and alcohol. The stimulant effect in caffeine can make it difficult to sleep so try not to drink them late in the day if you know you are having trouble sleeping. Drinking alcohol at night should be avoided, it interferes with the quality of sleep.

  • Get out of bed when you can’t sleep! Don’t try and force yourself to sleep. Get up and read a book, or have some herbal tea, listen to soothing music, have a warm bath, it helps relax you.

Some other points I have learned:

Take the pressure off of sleeping, if you are having trouble sleeping the thought of bedtime alone can stress you out which actually negatively affects you. You should get up and do something if you can’t sleep this eases your mind and makes you feel more in control of time plus it beats starring at a clock all night.

It is important that you plan a good sleeping environment. From what I have read it is best if you remove electronics from the bedroom area, make the room dark and ensure you are comfortable in your bed. Apparently we spend one third of our lives in bed so it is best that we ensure we can get some sleep. Okay clutter in your room can also stress you out and make it hard for you to go to bed, I suggest cleaning that up and making the room strictly a place to sleep. The sites suggest removing the TV from the bedroom. You have to try and be as relaxed as possible. Also if the insomnia persists it is

I for one am going to try out what I have just learned and maybe I can get some shut-eye tonight. Dreamland here I come, ZzzzzzZZZZzzZZZZzzzZZ all the way!!

Good luck, happy sleeping!!

-ADELE-

Adele!!

Today I wanted to dedicate my post to Adele, we all love the British icon. She described her music as ‘heartbroken soul’ and it is true, the moment we hear her strong voice singing of the lows of life due to love we can totally relate. Don’t deny it! I’m pretty sure we all have someone who comes up in our heads when we hear ‘Rolling in the Deep‘ playing and the more emotional of us will find ourselves screaming ‘You could have had it all!!!’ and pointing at our pasts. We shouldn’t go deep into that now, we’ll save our melodramatic reactions to heartbreak for another post that with luck might fit on this blog page.lol.

Anyways world back to Adele, born in Tottenham London on the 5th of May 1988 to a single mother she began singing at the age of four. She dubs the Spice Girls responsible for her ever picking up a mic saying that she wouldn’t be where she is if it weren’t for them. She wrote ‘Hometown Glory’, which is her first recorded song, at the age of 16. She went to the BRIT School of Performing Arts and Technology and was classmates with Leona Lewis (don’t you just love her?). As a class project she made a three-song demo which her friend put up on the internet (don’t we just love the internet?). Her demo became famous of Myspace and lead to a call by XL recordings. She signed with them but that was her first step out into the world of recording. She went on to receive various awards whilst under that label such as the BRIT Awards Critic’s Choice. Her first album was called ’19’. A song from it ‘Chasing Pavements‘ was number 2 on the Charts. When she moved to America she signed with Columbia records but there seemed like her dream of becoming famous was about to come to it’s end then she was offered to be a guest-singer on Saturday Night Live and lucky for her that day Sarah Palin was the special guest so 17 million people were watching. That night SNL had their best ratings in 14 years and Adele just happened to be singing ‘Chasing Pavements’ and ‘Cold Shoulder’ to all those viewers so it shouldn’t surprise you that her album, ’19‘, that week came out on the top on Itunes. It became 11th on the Billboard 200 moving up 35 spots so Adele hadn’t reached the end of her tree she was singing on a bough! Lol.

At the 51st Grammy Awards in 2009 Adele won the Best New Artist and the Best Female Pop Vocal Performance .Adele’s album ’21’ was released this January in the US and in February in the UK. Critics have described it as ‘contemporary roots and country music’. And she herself described her song ‘Rolling In The Deep’ as a ‘dark bluesy gospel disco tune’ and the weird thing is we all know exactly what she means. According to the Official Charts Company,Adele is the fist living artist to achieve the feat of two top five hits in both the Official Singles Chart and the Official Albums Chart simultaneously since the Beatles in 1964! So Bravo to her for that. Well British critics have described her as the new Amy Winehouse but I am crossing my fingers that she isn’t Amy’s replica because where the hell is Amy now?? When the press kept comparing her to this musical woman and that she said “We are a gender not a genre” which hit the nail right on the point. Allmusic said “Adele is simply too magical to compare to anyone” and I agree one hundred percent, I see myself 50 years down the line still being touched by the sound of her voice. She is an amazing woman that I couldn’t help but recognize today in my post.

For your sake I have also put up the lyrics to her song (which is my favourite song at the moment)

Rolling In The Deep

There’s a fire starting in my heart,

Reaching a fever pitch and it’s bringing me out the dark,

Finally, I can see you crystal clear,
Go ahead and sell me out and a I’ll lay your ship bare,
See how I’ll leave with every piece of you,
Don’t underestimate the things that I will do,

There’s a fire starting in my heart,
Reaching a fever pitch and it’s bring me out the dark,

The scars of your love remind me of us,
They keep me thinking that we almost had it all,
The scars of your love, they leave me breathless,
I can’t help feeling,

We could have had it all,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
Rolling in the deep,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
You had my heart inside your hand,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
And you played it to the beat,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),

Baby, I have no story to be told,
But I’ve heard one on you and I’m gonna make your head burn,
Think of me in the depths of your despair,
Make a home down there as mine sure won’t be shared,

The scars of your love remind me of us,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
They keep me thinking that we almost had it all,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
The scars of your love, they leave me breathless,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
I can’t help feeling,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),

We could have had it all,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
Rolling in the deep,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
You had my heart inside your hand,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),

And you played it to the beat,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),

Could have had it all,
Rolling in the deep,
You had my heart inside your hand,
But you played it with a beating,

Throw your soul through every open door,
Count your blessings to find what you look for,
Turn my sorrow into treasured gold,
You’ll pay me back in kind and reap just what you’ve sown,

(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
We could have had it all,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
We could have had it all,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
It all, it all, it all,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),

We could have had it all,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
Rolling in the deep,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
You had my heart inside your hand,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
And you played it to the beat,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),

Could have had it all,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
Rolling in the deep,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
You had my heart inside your hand,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),

But you played it,
You played it,
You played it,
You played it to the beat.

-Words-

Hello world! Well I wrote this poem two days ago. Happy reading!!

Words, my old companions
my missed friends
where have you gone this season?
Surely not into the garden where
I sit in sun in search of you
looking at flowers I cannot name
and birds I would rather see in my plate.
You aren’t there my old friends,
I wander here and there
observing a colony of ants’
governance over who has the fate of
the dying bumble bee,
I watch them gather, oh what little people!
And then I look from here
to there,
Eyes settling then wandering off again
to the rusty fence of my self-made
prison
to the squeaky gate of my captivity
but I’ve seen the world in all coats
and watched the neon lights turn on
and off and followed
a swarm of yellow cabs with my
eyes,
there is nothing for me out there,
No words in the crowded streets
poetry isn’t waiting in lines
Or getting off and on and off
and off metal that makes you
go go go.
Words, you aren’t there either
you have left the dingy bars empty
and the disco lights dim,
My friends you’ve left the city
so there I sit in a forest of plants
unknown and political insects
wondering if you are among them
lurking in the trail of the tiny slug
voyaging the expanse of my garden,
Or perhaps you jump with the grasshoppers
who are Tarzan to my uncut grass
making loud noises as they jump from
stem to stem.
My old friends, come to me, I’ll
wait day after day still as that honeybee
that watches flowers like a hawk
ready to pounce on them
as though they will run off
leaving him like you did me.
Adamantly I wait and wonder
and search and hope
amidst little strangers
for my friends to return.
Words beloved,
words missed.

Where have you floated off to?

Okay Pablo Neruda is like one of my favourite poets so this is the second poem I have written because of him. It is kinda funny but every time I read a Pablo Neruda book I feel so inspired so my last poem about him “The Religion of Words” was basically talking about how his spirit whispers at my window and this poem is about my recent bout of writer’s block and how Pablo’s spirit was no longer whispering at my window. You’ll understand it. Happy Reading!!

Pablo,

You’ve been distant a while

Never where you’d wait

patiently for me to get into

my bed,

where you’d stand at my window

blowing your pipe like you hadn’t

been anxious

like you hadn’t been waiting for me

You’d greet me indifferently

but I knew better

I saw the joy in your spirit-eyes

the elation in your soul,

as you’d crossed from one

world to this one again

just to tell me things you’d left unsaid,

Night upon night

a poet and a poet

there you’d be once again,

all spirits converse in gibberish

or is it only those of poets?

But your gibberish to me

is heaven divine,

tiny fragments of marvelous blah

and blah,

Our souls converse

not lost in translation

but wandering in it

exploring its hills

of enigma

and it’s valleys

of incomprehension.

And I, waking to understand it

one and all.

But these nights I stay awake

wondering if you’ll be there.

Where have you floated off to Pablo?

Does the sky need a poet to

recite poems of life in Celio?

Life eternal.

Life surrounded by fences

of gold

floored by cushions of fluffy

white clouds.

Harps play and angels sing.

But I need you Pablo,

I need you

To mumble to my soul

again,

once again,

over and over,

never straying.

These nights I’ll leave my window

open

and lay awake waiting for you.

Come back to me Pablo

and let our souls chatter.

You’ll tell me of the new world

and I’ll tell you of the old,

you’ll say it all and then we’ll part

me to sleep and you to forever.

life eternal.

My Fav Quotes

I love to look up quotes,I pick up pieces of inspiration from all over and try to build all this self-confidence through those words. Being an author and a poet words have so much affect on the way in which I lead my life, sayings are somehow like the fuel that keeps me going further, dreaming in more colors, believing in myself more, keeping my focus and going out into the world not ashamed of who I am. So I have gathered up a couple of quotes that I personally love and hope that they have a positive effect on you. Here they are:

God grant me the serenity

To accept the things I cannot change;

Courage to change the things I can;

And wisdom to know the difference.”

Reinhold Niebuhr

I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do something I can do” Edward Everett Hale

Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” Martin Luther King, Jr.

If you surrender to the wind, you can ride it” Toni Morrison

There is no passion to be found in playing small- in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.” Nelson Mandela

Living in the moment means letting go of the past and not waiting for the future. It means living your life consciously, aware that each moment you breathe is a gift.” Oprah Winfrey.

I postpone death by living, by suffering, by error, by risking, by giving, by losing” Anaias Nin

You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it.” Maya Angelou

In the hopes of reaching the moon men fail to see the flowers that blossom at their feet” Albert Schweitzer

Whatever you are be a good one” Abraham Lincoln

You’ve got to do your own growing, no matter how tall your grandfather was” Irish Proverb

Wrinkles should merely indicate where smiles have been.” Mark Twain

Life is an opportunity, benefit from it.

Life is beauty, admire it.

Life is bliss, taste it.

Life is a dream, realize it.

Life is a challenge, meet it.

Life is a duty, complete it.

Life is a game, play it.

Life is a promise, fulfill it.

Life is sorrow, overcome it.

Life is a song, sing it.

Life is a struggle, accept it.

Life is a tragedy, confront it.

Life is an adventure, dare it.

Life is luck, make it.

Life is too precious, do not destroy it.

Life is life, fight for it.”

Mother Teresa

Have a heart that never hardens, a temper that never tires, a touch that never hurt.” Charles Dickens.

We don’t stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing.” George Bernard Shaw.

Watch your thoughts, they become your words.

Watch your words, they become your actions.

Watch your actions, they become your habits.

Watch your habits, they become your character.

Watch your character, it becomes your destiny.”

Author Unknown.

Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.” Dr. Seuss.

The best challenges are the ones against yourself.” Dr Busiso Chisala (my dad!)

From these enlightening quotes I hope you will learn to accept the situations where you can’t do anything and do something when the chance arises. To live in the moment whilst understanding that you are prone to making mistakes and that things won’t always go your way. To be yourself without a care because you are unique and precious just the way you are. To challenge yourself whenever you can and never let fear make decisions for you. To let the future be the future and not waste time perfecting things you can’t foresee. To have faith in yourself, in the people surrounding you, in the world and most importantly in God.

Have a great day!!

The Greatest Quote Ever!

I had never read this quote before and the moment I did I felt so content, so reassured of the power that I possess and I couldn’t help but want to share this with people who have also been doubting themselves or who think they are failures, those who are not certain of what they can achieve in life so they make the sky the limit and disregard their dreams. This is for you, have a little more faith in yourselves today, read and be blessed.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God.
Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking
so that other people won’t feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.
We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.
It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone.
And as we let our own light shine,
we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear,
our presence automatically liberates others.
– Marianne Williamson

Baffled

What am I?

What am I not?

On vacations on balconies

in the company of wine

and strangers

questions are asked

rapidly,

bullets flying one after

the other.

People skip particulars

and leave the manners

at the bottom of

the Bordeaux,

without pacing

without pause

they ask the personal

in fluent gibberish.

On these occasions I

tend to stare

like I am looking out

into the fog.

“who are you?”

Bizarre and both naive,

a question aimed

to baffle me.

Of the little I know

Of the little I don’t

I have only ever assumed,

ever gotten but the jest

of who I am.

But of course I am a poet

or maybe I have been,

maybe I lived like one

but was I ever one within?

Is a poet a type of person?

Is a person a type of poet?

Maybe mice write ballads

or honeybees blank verse

who is who?

And what is what?

I can be the proverbial sky

one moment and go to bed a baboon

aren’t we all connected?

The vino speaks before

my words can reach my

lips.

I am never one thing at a time

or in one place in a moment.

Strangers now with their

mouths wide open

I baffle them unwillingly.

How Do You Feel When You Write?

The other day I was overcome by this sensation as I opened up my notebook and began to scribble in secret gibberish comprehendable by only the four of us; my pen,my paper,my mind and I. It was like electricity rushing through me but instead of making my hair stand up like in the movies when someone encounters so much voltage, it made me feel alive, in place. I started to wonder if this was normal, if it is only my heart that beats with fulfilment and elation once pen meets paper? If I am the only human on earth that makes myself smile upon completing that final chapter? Every time I write (without fail or doubt) I know this is my nirvana, even when the words don’t come out right and end up on paper balls in dustbins I still felt extreme joy when I jotted them down.

Writing is my oasis, I can casually inscribe the most intimate of my emotions on paper and I have caught myself ,one too many times, typing on a keyboard that is only connected to air. There I sit, my fingers at work and as each of their tips kisses a key I overwhelmed by a feeling, I am home. This was made for me and I for it. The irritation at an uncooperative computer or an ink-less pen, the frustration when a thought keeps me up at night but I can’t seem to get it right on paper, the anger at the folly of mind when it’s as blank as Mother Theresa’s criminal record, the excitement when I have managed to write something I love so much that I want to sit the whole world down and read it to them. All these emotions I have felt and feel, I own them, I live off of them and I live for them.

Who knows if I’ll grow up to be one of the greats, I just love it period.I love to write so much it scares me sometimes, I wonder if my talent slips away will I too? The bouts of writer’s block damn near kill me and I wonder what if the words are truly gone this time? Who will I be if I am not a writer?

So I was curious about how other people in this blogging community feel when they write. How do you feel when you write?

Anything Can Be

My best friend put this up, I can’t reblog it because her blogsite is different (which sucks because WordPress is the only way forward!!). But this quote really inspired me so I just had to share it. Go out and be inspired, life is knocking on your front door. People are constantly telling you what can’t and won’t be as if they can tell the future, don’t let them rain on your parade. Greatest is within you, Anything Can Be!
