Meet Milo Greene!!!

Folks I feel in love. I saw them perform once, I bought a CD , a shirt and I haven’t been able to get them off of my band. This California-born band has stolen my heart, the correct colloquial terminology for what I am, I believe, is ‘sprung’. I am Sprung!  I’d never heard of them before that day but gosh oh golly how I was ashamed of my ignorance as soon as that first guitar was strummed and that first note was belted out. I was and still am in awe. There is only so much I can do but I hope this post introduces even if it is a handful of people to this band, that would put a smile on my face. They are amazing. Please have a listen.

Music- Lyrics for Landfill by Daughter

My roommate sent me an album on Spotify and I was completely enamored. I hope you all know Spotify , if not please download it this very moment at www.spotify.com. I am a firm believer in Spotify and how it is the best place to listen to the best music. I have found myself rocking out to a compilation of random music I prolly would never be able to find on any other radio site. I am serious, I find myself listening to Tracy Chapman on second and the next I am shaking my Booty to a Dancehall song straight from Jamaica. It is bliss. Being an exhausted college student I could use the rock-out session theraphy every once in a while (aka EVERYDAY). I feel selfish for not writing in such a long time, I have a lot to say but I barely have the time to share it, so, I figured I’d update you on what I have been listening to. A couple of songs are favorites on my Spotify, Young the Giant, City and the Colour, Jessie J, Ice Prince, J. Cole, Drizzy Drake, I just discovered a band called Graffit6 that I can’t get enough of. And today my dearest friend just introduced me to Daughter who is an amazing musician, if you are into sorta like mellow indie music that just grips you then you will take to Daughter like I did. I recommend her songs The Woods, Candles, Switzerland and my favorite Landfill. The lyrics are bellow, if the lyrics don’t make you fall in love with her on the spot then there is no musical hope for you. Just kidding. Have a happy Monday world!

Landfill by Daughter

“Throw me in the landfill
Don’t think about the consequences
Throw me in the dirt pit
Don’t  think about the choices that you make
Throw  me in the water
Don’t think about  the splash I will create
Leave me at  the altar
Knowing all the things you  just escaped
Push me out to  sea
On the little boat that you  made
Out of the evergreen
That you helped your father cut  away
Leave me on the tracks
To wait until the morning train  arrives
Don’t you dare look  back
Walk away, catch up with the  sunrise
This is  torturous
Electricity between both  of us
And this is dangerous’cause
I want you so much
But I hate your guts
I  hate you
So leave me in the cold
Wait until the snow covers me up
So I cannot move
So I’m just embedded in the frost
Then leave me in the rain
Wait  until my clothes cling to my frame
Wipe away your tear stains
Thought  you said you didn’t feel pain
Well this is torturous
Electricity  between both of us
And this is  dangerous’cause I want you so  much
But I hate your guts
I want you so much
But I hate your guts
Well  this is torturous
Electricity  between both of us
And this is  dangerous’cause I want you  so much
But I hate your  guts
I want you so  much
But I hate your  guts”

-ADELE-

Adele!!

Today I wanted to dedicate my post to Adele, we all love the British icon. She described her music as ‘heartbroken soul’ and it is true, the moment we hear her strong voice singing of the lows of life due to love we can totally relate. Don’t deny it! I’m pretty sure we all have someone who comes up in our heads when we hear ‘Rolling in the Deep‘ playing and the more emotional of us will find ourselves screaming ‘You could have had it all!!!’ and pointing at our pasts. We shouldn’t go deep into that now, we’ll save our melodramatic reactions to heartbreak for another post that with luck might fit on this blog page.lol.

Anyways world back to Adele, born in Tottenham London on the 5th of May 1988 to a single mother she began singing at the age of four. She dubs the Spice Girls responsible for her ever picking up a mic saying that she wouldn’t be where she is if it weren’t for them. She wrote ‘Hometown Glory’, which is her first recorded song, at the age of 16. She went to the BRIT School of Performing Arts and Technology and was classmates with Leona Lewis (don’t you just love her?). As a class project she made a three-song demo which her friend put up on the internet (don’t we just love the internet?). Her demo became famous of Myspace and lead to a call by XL recordings. She signed with them but that was her first step out into the world of recording. She went on to receive various awards whilst under that label such as the BRIT Awards Critic’s Choice. Her first album was called ’19’. A song from it ‘Chasing Pavements‘ was number 2 on the Charts. When she moved to America she signed with Columbia records but there seemed like her dream of becoming famous was about to come to it’s end then she was offered to be a guest-singer on Saturday Night Live and lucky for her that day Sarah Palin was the special guest so 17 million people were watching. That night SNL had their best ratings in 14 years and Adele just happened to be singing ‘Chasing Pavements’ and ‘Cold Shoulder’ to all those viewers so it shouldn’t surprise you that her album, ’19‘, that week came out on the top on Itunes. It became 11th on the Billboard 200 moving up 35 spots so Adele hadn’t reached the end of her tree she was singing on a bough! Lol.

At the 51st Grammy Awards in 2009 Adele won the Best New Artist and the Best Female Pop Vocal Performance .Adele’s album ’21’ was released this January in the US and in February in the UK. Critics have described it as ‘contemporary roots and country music’. And she herself described her song ‘Rolling In The Deep’ as a ‘dark bluesy gospel disco tune’ and the weird thing is we all know exactly what she means. According to the Official Charts Company,Adele is the fist living artist to achieve the feat of two top five hits in both the Official Singles Chart and the Official Albums Chart simultaneously since the Beatles in 1964! So Bravo to her for that. Well British critics have described her as the new Amy Winehouse but I am crossing my fingers that she isn’t Amy’s replica because where the hell is Amy now?? When the press kept comparing her to this musical woman and that she said “We are a gender not a genre” which hit the nail right on the point. Allmusic said “Adele is simply too magical to compare to anyone” and I agree one hundred percent, I see myself 50 years down the line still being touched by the sound of her voice. She is an amazing woman that I couldn’t help but recognize today in my post.

For your sake I have also put up the lyrics to her song (which is my favourite song at the moment)

Rolling In The Deep

There’s a fire starting in my heart,

Reaching a fever pitch and it’s bringing me out the dark,

Finally, I can see you crystal clear,
Go ahead and sell me out and a I’ll lay your ship bare,
See how I’ll leave with every piece of you,
Don’t underestimate the things that I will do,

There’s a fire starting in my heart,
Reaching a fever pitch and it’s bring me out the dark,

The scars of your love remind me of us,
They keep me thinking that we almost had it all,
The scars of your love, they leave me breathless,
I can’t help feeling,

We could have had it all,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
Rolling in the deep,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
You had my heart inside your hand,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
And you played it to the beat,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),

Baby, I have no story to be told,
But I’ve heard one on you and I’m gonna make your head burn,
Think of me in the depths of your despair,
Make a home down there as mine sure won’t be shared,

The scars of your love remind me of us,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
They keep me thinking that we almost had it all,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
The scars of your love, they leave me breathless,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
I can’t help feeling,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),

We could have had it all,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
Rolling in the deep,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
You had my heart inside your hand,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),

And you played it to the beat,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),

Could have had it all,
Rolling in the deep,
You had my heart inside your hand,
But you played it with a beating,

Throw your soul through every open door,
Count your blessings to find what you look for,
Turn my sorrow into treasured gold,
You’ll pay me back in kind and reap just what you’ve sown,

(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
We could have had it all,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
We could have had it all,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
It all, it all, it all,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),

We could have had it all,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
Rolling in the deep,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
You had my heart inside your hand,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
And you played it to the beat,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),

Could have had it all,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),
Rolling in the deep,
(Tears are gonna fall, rolling in the deep),
You had my heart inside your hand,
(You’re gonna wish you never had met me),

But you played it,
You played it,
You played it,
You played it to the beat.

*Rockstar Therapy*

RockStar GiRL!!

My post on Meditation was all about reconnecting with your mind, being at peace with yourself and mostly quiet things so this post may leave you thinking I am the most inconsistent person in the world with my being Buddha Zen one day and Aerosmith Zealous the next. But I found that Rockstarism is also a therapeutic outlet, they just let go!I found myself envious of their zeal, their strange, their confidence, how they can go out into the scary word and scream in it’s face without even blinking. I found myself enamoured with that rock-star nonchalance that you can’t exactly pick up at the supermarket, fearlessness is something you are either born with our earn from a rough life. I wanted to be like them, one hundred percent indifferent, one hundred percent fearless like the world’s opinions or limits they try to impose were invisible.

I was listening to 30 seconds to Mars and bobbing my head back and forth. I immediately paused the music, parted my hair into a crazy hairstyle, applied the darkest shade of eye-liner I could find around my eyes, wore a ridiculously mismatched outfit and returned to not giving a flying rat’s ass. I must say not only was that dramatic moment theatrical but it is also surprisingly therapeutic. Letting loose like a rock-star for even the slightest moment can really free you from some hoarded sorrows. I felt liberated in that moment, simply shaking my ATM (which according to my aunt means my African Trademark) like I just don’t care because I really just didn’t care. Now I am not saying you should go out, dye your hair some absurd colour, get tatted up and adopt a drug addiction like stereotypes would have you think Rock-stars are all about. I am saying rock-stars can teach you a thing or too about not caring too much and sometimes being carefree is exactly what you need. We spend our lives being stressed out over schedules we made for ourselves, predicaments we put ourselves into and we never really have the time to scream at the word and release that load of stress. We may never have that radical confidence of a rock-star but one download click away can assure us a few minutes of rockstarism once in a while.

A World Without Gaga

GaGa!!

Celebrate all things you don’t like about yourself-love yourself. Gaga

I set out to thrash Gaga today, denouncing my throne as a Gaga-fanatic so I went on Wikipedia. I had my sites set on finding all the dirt to corroborate my latest decision to dump her. In the first place her outrageous new video “Born this way” did not boil with me. I love that she is always showcasing individuality but I mean there are limits, religion for example is a seriously touchy topic and tackling it like football players tackle each other is just brutal! The horns in her cheeks are also a bit over-the-top and not in a Coco Chanel extravagant way more in a Gaga-needs-a-timeout sort of way. I can except her bisexuality or the fact that she doesn’t wear pants but in my mind she has gone way past my STOP sign and crossed the yellow-tape with that music video. I must admit the lightbulb first turned on in my head when in one of her music videos (Alejandro) she attempted to swallow a rosary. That set off little sparks but “Born this way” oiled the fire so I planned to end this love-hate saga and dump my Lady Gaga (I couldn’t help but RHYME).The Google Goddess was at work but this time it was an angry mission, I was determined to rid myself of all connections to Gaga and I thought I was going to say my final “Ra RA Ooola La”. But then I read a story, her story. Like my all-time favorite Disney Princess ,Pocahontas, said “You’ll learn things you’ve never known you’ve never known” and I did. Her story is a story a little less sparkly than her loud outfits, it was the story of a girl with a dream in the Big Apple. Born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta Lady Gaga began playing the piano at the age of four, she has practically wrote songs all her life. She dropped out of University to pursue a music career and with difficulty she managed to make it. I found out that she is philanthropist and an advocate, that this working girl has a big heart to go with her grande talent! And then I imagined a Gaga-less world, where red carpet events wouldn’t be as exciting or leave you by the TV wondering “What’s going to Gaga wear?”, where ‘Glee’ wouldn’t have that special episode where Rachel reconnected with her mother via the songs of our beloved Europop sensation. It was a sad world, though imaginary, a world with less flair and many out of work dramatically creative designers .I’m not saying that I don’t find her exhibition of “religious art” highly offensive. Music is a spectacular thing and Gaga may go a bit overboard but there are some things that can’t be stopped and whether I agree with her music all the time or not there are songs of hers that will always be my ultimate feel-good songs (Just Dance!). Like a boomerang she just keeps coming back to my heart. You don’t have to love all of the songs by an artist, lets face it some of our favorite musicians have made songs in the past that cannot for-the-love-of-Grey’s Anatomy grow on us, in that way I may never like “Born this way” but there won’t be stopping my feet from tapping to “Paparazzi” or my body from imitating her dance moves in “Bad Romance”. I decree that once you’ve been BeGagaed there is no turning back!

BTW: Gaga just took Oprah’s slice of the Forbes Cake by topping the annual chart of the most powerful celebrities.

Lady Gaga topples Oprah Winfrey from her No.1 spot on our list, which she’s given up for only the third time in seven years. Gaga is there not just because of the $90 million she earned with a monster tour, but also because of her 32 million Facebook fans and 10 million Twitter followers–aka Little Monsters–who helped move 1 million digital downloads of her recent single “Born This Way” in only five days. They’re also happy to buy the MAC makeup, Monster headphones and Virgin Mobile phones she features in her videos.Forbes
